The One with the Plan to be a Housewife

Had dinner with about 30 colleagues from the Regional meeting. Most of them were from Asia and some of them came from the US, UK and Belgium.

One interesting topic sparked when we two women (including me) and a man were talking. We (the ladies) said that how we wish that our husbands are rich enough so that we can stay at home, goyang kaki and just go shopping. The man made a comment: “how long can you stay at home? u’ll eventually get bored. my wife actually got bored after 3 months of decorating our new house. how much can you decorate your house?”

I beg to differ, mum left her job 15 years ago. She was prolly mati kutu immediately after resigning. So, she did some other stuff. She was a freelance unit trust consultant and she did some businesses. After a few years, she did nothing. Just stayed at home.

Yes, I agree that it was a lot of sacrifice. To sacrifice your career to look after your kids. Memang sweet lah. Well, you can only do that if your husband can afford to support you. I asked mum if she wanted to work after dad left his job. She didn’t want to. She’d rather do some other things. Now, she’s alone at home when dad goes to the office. Again… she doesn’t want to work. She’s bored alright.. but she’d rather stay at home – do gardening, watch the TV and read. I’m thinking.. that’s heaven.

I’m gonna list down things I wanna do when one day I decide to quit my job (in no particular order).

  1. Learn to sew and sew my own baju (buy cheap cotton kain)
  2. Play SIMS! (this is sooooo going to take up a lot of my time)
  3. Read the Quran (ehem ehem.. buat weii.. jangan malas)
  4. Pray more? (Yes… pray more)
  5. Learn to play the guitar (pinjam uncle’s guitar and get the notes online, watch youtube videos)
  6. Exercise!!!!! (Both cardio and yoga/pilates)
  7. Learn to dance (follow dance/music videos… bagus juga.. blh kurus)
  8. Solve add maths questions. What? No no… just read more

I’ll add more if anything crosses my mind.

hey u my mum left her job when i was like 6 or sth. although i think she might hv been bored but i think in a way she was really occupied. Besides having to be our ‘chauffeur’ and send us to schools n tuition classes (my area even hv carpooling system – so she had more free time), she always hv sth to do. like lepaking wh her friends or sisters, going to classes, do gardening or jahit baju (mostly bli more kain but jahit only 10% of all the kain) or just lepak at home n play scrabble the whole day (she can b pro by now wh the amount of time she has put playing scrabble). Sometimes she even say she has no idea where all the time has passed..i guess it depends on how u look at things right?
