This conversation (via text messages) was between my coursemate (a guy-who-was-born-in-1980) and myself (1985).

Him: Yo apa cer?

Me: Haha.. Cerita mengenai sekolah/assignments ke diri sendiri?

Him: Apa-apa yg patut..:-)

Me: Erm.. Schoolwise, i x buat apa lg. I am so dead! Pening2

The past week had been good and I was exceptionally happy for the past few days for obvious reasons. Please note his reply below:

Him: Personally, apa bikin?

Me: Just received the best birthday present ever (for now until someone can beat this):
an ALLOTTED parking lot!! Rasa mcm CEO

Him: Kesian, u pi opis selama ni tarak specific car park ke?

Me: Takde. Dah lah kena byr RM20 per day. Parking is a problem kalau lambat n kalau keluar n blk after lunch.

Me: Y do u have to be a bitch?

Him: Uh? Bitch? What’s with the emo?

Me: Bcos i was in a good mood n ur reply suddenly made my
face red n hot

Red n hot (=read: angry)

Him: Ah suddenly i’m the bitch la? okla what ever.. It’s nice knowing u.

I tried explaining just in case he didn’t understand.

Me: Huh? Oh i forgot dat u’re the more emo one.
I was expecting u to at the same time at least show dat u’re happy when i was so freaking excited abt my parking spot, but u cuma htr ‘kesian…’. Sorry 4 being too honest, but those words were demotivating, demoralizing n i obviously was offended.

Knew that he could not accept the fact that i called him a bitch. Naturally apologized just to look /feel good (didn’t think i was sincere)

Me: Sorry, shouldnt have called u a bitch, berterus terang or even said anything. Forgot dat u’re not one of my friends who knew me well.

About an hour later,

Him: Baiklah cik (insert my name).. I pun nak minta maaf kalau penggunaan kata ‘kesian’ tu menyinggung perasaan u. i x berniat apa, cuma ikhlas bertanya, n i tak tahu pun u kena byr untuk parking kat opis. unlike kami dapat car park free. Saya x terguris pun dgn kata anda. Cuma sy baru sedar pd mlm ni insan yg sy suka berkawan selama ni menunjukkan nilai budi yg sebenar.. Sy harap dgn makian anda tlh menyedarkan sy akan budi bahasa wanita pada hari ini. Sekian, w’slm.

I don’t think it’s about the age gap or the geographic location. I guess he expects woman to be super polite (berbudi-bahasa + sopan santun). I just don’t get it! He’s staying in the Klang Valley, he goes clubbing/partying, he’s 27 years old and he used to study in a private university in the Klang Valley.

What I know is he has only elder brothers but no sisters and he is not married. That explains. I wish him all the best in finding his perempuan-melayu-terakhir!
